Echoing comments made by the late Helen Thomas, Gawker suggested Wednesday that Israel should be located in Germany. According to Hamilton Nolan, the current fighting in Gaza would not be taking place if the Jewish state were located in the country responsible for the Holocaust.
“Israel and Palestine are warring again. Civilians are dying again,” Nolan said. “Families are losing their homes, and chaos persists. Again. This would not be happening if Israel were located somewhere that makes more sense: in Germany.”
Of course, Nolan — like so many in the so-called mainstream media — failed to state there would be no conflict if Hamas did not lob rockets into Israel. His answer, like Thomas’, involves destroying the nation of Israel, which happens to be Hamas’ goal.
“An Israel established in Germany would have had several advantages to its current location. It would have been much larger. It would have been richer in natural resources. It would have a strong moral justification for its existence in that place. And, to top it all off, it would not be surrounded by Muslims committed to destroying it,” Nolan wrote, justifying his thesis.
But Nolan wasn’t finished, saying the current location of Israel, based on thousands of years of biblical history, is unjustified as it is based on what he called a “mystical and empirically unjustified belief in the ‘holiness’ of some particular place…”
