The search for a man swept out into the ocean during a baptism Sunday morning near Guadalupe Dunes Park has been called off.
Family and friends say the person missing is Benito Flores, 42, from Santa Maria.
He was assisting his cousin, Pastor Maurigro Cervantes, with a baptism that morning when Pastor Cervantes says a large wave hit them.
Pastor Cervantes and another person were able to make it back to shore, but Flores is still missing.
Monday, rescue crews searched 10 miles of coastline from Guadalupe Dunes Park to Avila Beach after reports came in of a body in the surf line.
Local law enforcement agencies called off the search that afternoon after officials said those reports were a false alarm and the object seen was fishing buoys, however, the U.S. Coast Guard continued its search for Flores by helicopter and boat.
Officials said Wednesday the U.S. Coast Guard has now also called of its search.
