Apparently, someone is surprised that Republicans like dark chocolate

[Ed. – Sounds like someone needs to get out more.]

According to the National Confectioners Association (NCA), which provided the data for the study, high-turnout Republicans really, really love Hershey’s Special Dark and, surprisingly, Ghirardelli. (Technically Ghirardelli is a US-based company, but it sounds like fancy European socialist chocolate. Color us surprised.)

Other surprises:

  • Reese’s Pieces, 3 Musketeers, and Butterfinger are bipartisan candies.
  • Unsurprisingly, more Republicans prefer Red Vines and Payday than their Democrat counterparts (FINE, conservatives).
  • Unsurprisingly, high turnout Democrats don’t have a candy preference, probably because they’re all eating granola and chia seeds.
  • Average and low-turnout Democrats are fans of candy that surprisingly still exists/is not Actually Candy (Mr. Goodbar, Life Savers Gummies, M&M Minis, Bit-O-Honey, and — shudder — Raisinets).

Surprisingly, Republicans prefer to Taste The Rainbow (TM).
