Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee has long been a supporter of the creepy government overreach known as “common core,” but as Ben Velderman of EAG News reported way back in December, he seemed to come to his senses after investigating the matter further.
However, it seems that the Fox News host really just took issue with the “brand.”
In June, Ben Wolfgang of the Washington Times wrote that Huckabee “penned a letter Tuesday to lawmakers in Oklahoma, urging them to stick by the standards even as Michigan, Indiana and other states have backed away from them.”
Then, in December, Huckabee wrote in part,
“…I don’t support what Common Core has become in many states or school districts. I’m dead set against the federal government creating a uniform curriculum for any subject; I oppose the collection of personal data on students that would identify them and track them and any effort to give that personal information to the federal government. I am steadfast in my belief that parents should ultimately decide the best venue for their children’s education, whether public schools, private schools, religious schools or home-schools. I believe education is a local or state function — not a federal one…”
Huckabee went on to say that “Common Core as a brand is dead.” Although he said that he supported standards for math and English, it seemed at the time that he was backing away from Common Core.
Huckabee should recognize that common core indoctrination occurs even in math, as reported at Liberty Unyielding.
The most recent report from January 30 noted that Huckabee supports the Common Core standards, but recommends that they be re-branded.
Isn’t that a progressive trick?
Lyndsey Layton of the Washington Post wrote,
“At a recent meeting of the Council of Chief State School Officers, one of the organizations that helped create the standards, former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee (R) urged state education leaders to ditch the “Common Core” name, noting that it had become ‘toxic.'”
Huckabee was quoted as saying,
“Rebrand it, refocus it, but don’t retreat,” he said.
He seemed so sincere….
