Lest anyone accuse me of imparting no useful advice, here’s something you should never do if you ever find yourself testifying before the House Energy and Commerce Committee — or any other congressional committee for that matter:
Okay, so in fairness, the question was kind of a clown question, or at least a political one designed specifically to embarrass President Obama. But that doesn’t matter. That’s what every oversight hearing is like. When you watch such hearings, you’re likely to come away with a negative opinion of everyone involved.
But most people don’t watch hearings on C-Span. They watch the news. What they’re going to see is the clueless cabinet official who is supposed to be implementing Obamacare (and doesn’t understand it) giving a somewhat insolent and defiant answer, even as HealthCare.gov crashes and burns and millions are being dropped from health plans, in direct contradiction to President Obama’s promises. The fact that the insolence was somewhat justifiable will be lost on everyone.
