That politicians have a questionable and fleeting relationship with their principles is hardly newsworthy. But President Obama’s utter amnesia of his own is nothing short of astonishing.
If you listen to the President’s rhetoric surrounding the looming deadline to raise our debt ceiling, you’d think Republicans have steered the country into uncharted, shark-infested waters. You’d think this was the first time any politician had ever asked for a debate on the debt limit, instead of offering immediate capitulation.
In remarks to the Business Roundtable in September, Obama told this whopper to his guests:
“You have never seen in the history of the United States the debt ceiling or the threat of not raising the debt being used to extort a president or a governing party and trying to force issues that have nothing to do with the budget and nothing to do with the debt.”
