The always great Josh Kraushaar of National Journal imagines a reality where the never-happened Obama pivot to jobs and growth was calling from inside the house.
Instead of using huge congressional majorities to push healthcare, “imagine if Obama began his presidency pitching an economic opportunity platform focused on, say, expanding job-retraining programs, extending the payroll-tax cut, and streamlining the tax code. … With health care reform, Obama chose the path of most resistance, and paid for it both politically and at the expense of achieving other policy goals.”
And spending his political capital on immigration reform rather than Obamacare may have helped avoid the 2010 tidal wave election for the GOP. Kraushaar.
