Mobster wants gov’t assistance to pay his legal fees

Former Bonanno crime boss Vincent (Vinny Gorgeous) Basciano is trying to convince a federal judge to make taxpayers pay for the lawyer handling his appeal.

Basciano, 53, is serving two life sentences in the nation’s toughest Supermax prison in Colorado for separate racketeering and murder convictions.

Basciano filed an “affidavit of poverty” seeking payment of his legal fees and any other fees relating to his appeal. The government footed the bill to the tune of more than $1 million for Basciano’s legal defense in his second trial in which he faced the death penalty for ordering a gangland murder.
