Copyright law has become a farce since the emergence of the great wave of laws extending it farther and farther into the future because companies don’t want their early works to fall into the public domain. (If I remember right, the first big copyright extension law is informally calledthe Mickey Mouse law because it had the backing of Disney because Disney didn’t want the cartoon Steamboat Willie and others of that era out of its control.)
